In nature, there is a phenomenon called “Hybrid vigor” or heterosis. It is the result from the cross between two different species. So, Have you ever imagined what would be the result of a cross between a lion and a tigress ? or even more exotic, a cross between a white lion and a white tigress? Well, we have good news, you don’t have to imagine anymore the result are white Ligers!
These male cubs born from a male white lion named “Ivory” and female white tigress “Saraswati” are the definition of adorable.
With approximately 1,200 white tigress and only 300 white lions in the world, such pairings are unlikely due to the distinct habitats of the two breeds. That’s why they were brought together at the Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, a sanctuary in North Carolina. After some romantic time together they just created the rarest, yet, most beautiful Ligers in the world.
